Having defoamer on hand helps to reduce hot tub foaming until the water can be changed. A few squirts significantly reduces foaming.
Note that foaming is usually caused by improper water chemistry, imbalanced water or total dissolved solids added to the water as well as soaps and lotions from bathing suits, hair and other sources.
